Why Abortion Bans Do Not Work
Texas’s threat on a woman’s right to have an abortion has not changed anything. As more states follow in their steps and ban abortion, things still won’t change. The fact of the matter is that banning abortions does not negate the need for them. It just causes more danger, more complications, and more issues as women find another way to get one.

Unsafe abortions are defined as “a procedure terminating an unintended pregnancy carried out either by persons lacking the necessary skills or in an environment that does not confirm to minimal medical standards, or both” according to the World Health Organization. When abortions are banned, this is exactly what occurs. The number of legal abortions will go down, of course, but that is not taking into account the amount of backroom and unsafe abortions that are occurring. On average, 25 million unsafe abortions take place each year. Put a ban on safe health care and that number skyrockets.

These bans are not only taking away a woman’s fundamental right to healthcare, but they are causing more danger and posing more of a threat to society’s life than it is saving it.
