How You Can Help Save Black Transgender Lives.

In today’s society, being a person of color is hard enough, but when you add being part of the LGBTQ+ community to the mix, life gets a lot harder. With the Black community being one of the most discriminated against communities, being part of the LGBTQ+ community often gives society more reasons to hate BIPOC. We, as a society, need to start taking action to change the negative experiences of Black trans people throughout America. In this day and age, the group that is most discriminated against is the Black trans community, as they receive hate from both, racist and anti-LGBTQ+, groups. We need to come together and do what is right, we need to stand up to the injustices that are happening, and we need to do it now.

In 2020 alone, at least 22 Black trans lives have been taken due to hate crimes. Black trans people are being killed at a disproportionate rate and it needs to be clear that their lives are included in the Black Lives Matter movement.

As we flood the streets, our actions do not remain unnoticed. The unity being shown in the streets holds power like never before. Thousands of people out there are marching, and as the saying goes, in unity there is strength. On a side note, if you decide to show your support, and join the marches and protests, please wear a mask, and keep yourself and others around you safe while we battle this pandemic. Getting out and protesting for what you believe in is the first step of many to creating change.

Donating is a huge step in this process. If money is not easily available for you, but you still want to support this movement, then sign petitions! Using your voice, just like protesting, makes a big difference. There is strength in numbers, and these petitions help show that. If you need somewhere to start, here are some links:

If you want to do more than just use your voice, donations are so incredibly necessary in making changes to society’s terrible treatment of Black trans people. The following organizations and projects are striving to make the world a better place for the Black trans community and they need your help.

  2. https://linktr.ee/ForTheGworlsParty - For the Gworls is an organization that helps to pay for surgeries and pays rent for Black trans people that are in need.

  4. https://transgenderlawcenter.org/donate - The Transgender Law Center helps to reverse laws and policies that are against the community and even offers legal support.

Our voices have so much power and we have to use them to do good. If we don’t use the voices we have to stand up for the people who have none, then we are no better than those who oppose the movement. 2020 has been a historical year of trying times. It has shown us the injustices that our Black brothers and sisters face on a daily basis and has taught us that if we don’t stand up for what we believe in and take things into our own hands, then no one else will. Change has been made, but we cannot stop until the injustices that are happening each and everyday go from less to nothing. Use your voice! Black Trans Lives Matter!
